About Me!
My name is Jadyn Newman (she/her). Welcome to my portfolio! I'm currently based in my hometown of Chicago, Illinois, which I left only briefly to study at American University in Washington, D.C. I had the incredible opportunity to double major in both Film and Justice/Law Studies, each in which my passion lies.

I've spent the past 8 years in freelance video production, photography, and design work, landing eventually at the Illinois Office of the Governor as Communications Coordinator. Outside of my 9-5, I keep busy with screenwriting and documentary film projects.
My film "artist's statement" is a focus on amplifying often unheard voices- digging into unexpected places where we find community and the strange but meaningful corners of the world. Filmmaking is special in its ability to highlight a story that might not otherwise be remembered!
Changemaker Feature Article
I was thankful to be chosen as one of American University's 2023 Changemakers- where I was interviewed about my film work and time at AU. The article, entitled "Because I Care: Art, Change, and Self-Belief" is a tribute to my time at AU and how my passions grew over the course of four years.

A24 X MIHI Program

In June 2022, I participated in a 3 week program where 30 young BIPOC filmmakers were chosen to join sessions with Made in Her Image Mentors and A24 staff. We completed creative assignments, readings, and group activities with A24 executives in production, post, and distribution departments. It was an incredible experience where I learned so much and made a lot of meaningful connections with those in the field.
ILBCF Scholarship Recipient

2022 was my fourth consecutive year receiving the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation's scholarship for Black Illinois College Students. I am very grateful to be continually supported by this powerful group of Black leaders in Illinois' congress, and this caucus has provided me with many meaningful connections.
